Coordinated Contracts and National Agreement files, 1930-1981, [bulk 1944-1966].

This series contains files related to contract negotiations and arbitrations between the IAMAW and various aircraft and railroad companies. These contracts would be between an employer and the IAM and were reached through collective bargaining. Some contracts had to go through arbitration, which is the process of resolving a dispute (between labor and management) or a grievance outside the court system by presenting it to an impartial third party or panel for a decision that may or may not be binding. Represented in this series are National Labor Relation Board cases from the 1930s to the 1950s, the Presidential Emergency Board cases and the National Mediation Board cases. Also documented are disputes between machinists and Eastern Airlines, National Airlines, Monarch Airlines, Northwest Airlines, Pan American Airlines, Trans American Airlines and Capital Airlines. In addition, there are materials related to the Railway Labor Act. Included in this series are exhibits presented during the negotiation on contracts including newspaper articles, copies of previous agreements, surveys, and reports. Issues covered include: vacation pay, retirement plans, sick leave, annual leave, overtime compensation, seniority as well as other areas of concern.
